Finding a newly modernised, comfortable, well equipped cottage in a beautiful location within a short walk to a shop, café and pub is not easy to do, but Holly Cottage ticks all the boxes. Holly Cottage very much lived up to expectations. Aly and Greg were very welcoming and provided us with useful local information in advance of our arrival.The cottage has been very well modernised which make it easy to keep clean. It is comfortably furnished and most importantly the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen may be a bit cramped but it has more pans, crockery and the kind of utensils that you need, than any other property we have stayed in. Lovely place, lovely cottage, lovely holiday.
Finbar | Couple |10th October 2023Absolutely loved our stay at Holly Cottage. Extremely well equipped, plenty of utensils, glasses, crockery and cooking/cleaning equipment. I have stayed in cottages before, where there hasn’t even been any salt and pepper! Palnackie village is lovely, and the locals are friendly, although the Harbour Wall requires work as it’s deteriorating and unsafe (fenced off). The view from Millennium View point is lovely and we spent much time up there. Kippford was lovely too, and had a nice walk with our dog. There’s a big Tesco in Castle Douglas but Dalbeattie has plenty of shops for provisions too. But back to the cottage, the beds are very comfortable and fleecy blankets provided in the living room were nice when it turned a bit cooler, we didn’t use the log burner as wasn’t that cold, but I imagine it would be lovely in the colder months. Would love to return.

In the most perfect village setting, Holly Cottage is the most welcoming of places – you will not be disappointed. It has everything you need for however long you stay and you will never find comfier beds than the ones here. One visit will never be enough. Recommended.
Trusted Customer | Couple | 21st July 2023We stayed for two weeks at the end of June in this lovely s/c cottage. In 45 years doing s/c holidays this was the best organised we have come across. It was spotless and comfy. Luxury beds. Super TV. Nice kitchen. Lots of games for indoors and outside. Jigsaws. Log fire. Barbeque patio area. Dog friendly. They’ve thought about everything. There is a little village shop with a super cafe. The pub has an occasional popup retaurant where we had a faultless and delicious meal. There is a quirky and interesting gallery. Walks in all directions which suited our modest capabilities well. (We don’t do walks over 7 except by mistake.) Nice plaice to be.

We’ve stayed in a lot of holiday cottages and this is by far the best equipped and homely. You have thought of everything with so many extra touches. It is wonderful! Even on rainy days the fire made for cosy afternoons in with home comforts. The beds are so comfortable. We enjoyed travelling the coastal road to Ayr as well as visiting Bainloch Deer Park. Ryan | Family | Christmas 2022We’ve stayed at several self-catering cottages over the years, but can honestly say that Holly Cottage is amongst, if not, the very best. It is comfortable, beautifully furnished, extremely well equipped (particularly in the kitchen), dog friendly and ideal as a base for stunning local walks. The village itself is small, and quiet with a pub, village shop and cafe. Its location is perfect for woodland walks, trips to the beach or shopping expeditions. But equally, if you just want to curl up in front of the fire and read a book, that’s absolutely fine too.
